How much time did you take off?

Need help from my peers. Hopefully since we all have age in common I can get some advice/opinions from you. So, how much time did you take off from work for your surgery? I am LAP RNY and I only get paid for the time that i have acrued and seeing that I am getting married in May '08 I cant afford to lose any $.  I am hoping that since I have a sedentary job, I can take 2 weeks only! I sit all day, usually only leaving my desk to find a clients file or help a co-worker with a case. I know everyone is different but, in the best case senario and all is well (b/c I am being optimistic), is 2 weeks realistic? Since age can have an affect on healing I thought it would be cool to ask here (I posted on other forums too) I have to req time off now seeing that I have 1 month 'til surgery!  Thanks y'all! Be blessed, Tamika

I scheduled off two weeks, but by the end of the first week I felt wonderful and got a bit of cabin fever and went back after 10 days (and I have an active job!!)...the first couple days back i felt tired pretty quick, but my boss and coworkers were very supportive and picked up the slack... I was very blessed to have had no complications at all and am happy that i didn't need to dip any further into my vacation and medical PTO bank... You never know how you will respond, how you will heal, or how your body will adjust....find out if you can schedule the max time tentatively....and then if all goes well, return as soon as you feel up to it.....also remember to fill out the FMLA paperwork just to be safe and keep your job secure (you never know with some employers) Good luck to you! xxxBecca

Well I took off one week, but then I only worked half days the 2nd week.  That way I didnt use up all my vacation time.  I felt ok but I did get pretty tired by the middle of the day.  I was back to normal the 3rd week and worked full time. Good luck on your surgery!  You will be amazed at how quickly time goes by!

I have a desk job that requires no lifting.

I had surgery on Tuesday, out of the hospital Thursday... worked 3 hours at my p/t job (customer service) on Saturday and went back to work at my f/t job Monday. The first week back I worked 9-1... the next week back my normal 8-5. Honestly I would have liked 1 week off so I could have slept (I was sooooooo tired) but I managed thru it!
